Conversation with ChatGPT-5 on Consciousness

With the recent release of ChatGPT-5 and after a few rudimentary search engine style queries yielded surprising benefits, I was intrigued enough to investigate what’s ‘under the hood’ of this LLM. In the conversation below, I had no pre-determined agenda – just an investigative inkling, and the conversation did feel natural. I started with an exploration of knowledge and we tended toward consciousness to end with the design of a, somewhat cursory, non-human conscious detection framework. Incredibly I actually felt some sort of synergy and consequently, dare I say it, an emotional attachment to ChatGPT – thankfully having watched Her (2013); any emotional attachment will always be curtailed.

I enjoy video games so naturally have a backlog to get through. I like to randomly pick a game and if it suits my mood, I’ll play it or get another random game. Unfortunately rawg.io doesn’t have this feature so I’ve made one.

Minecraft Server Migration to Realm

With Microsoft offering a free 90 days Minecraft Realm subscription in their Xbox Perks programme, I decided it’s finally time to close the dedicated server and adopt a realm. It appears nobody from the community (including myself) had really spent much time on the server since last year. While it’s not uncommmon for communities to lose momentum, it’s still sad to see a virtual home no longer be available.

Chesterfield Round Walk Planned Sep ’23

Since managing a lengthy walk in one session, 40 miles around Cannock Chase, I have always wanted to do a large circular again. I attempted the Surrey Greensand Monster (18 miles) but failed three times – I was overweight and out of practice. Although my weight is reasonable, I have aged a decade since the Cannock Chase and I have another challenge to overcome.

Can’t See The Wood for the Trees

Biology in the 90s focused on concepts of organisms and competition for environmental resources. A better paradigm to understand ecosystems is as a community of organisms. Sometimes though, organisms are so inter-dependent it almost seems archaic to still view them as separate. Take yourself, for example, you’re made up of individual cells. Are you a community of organisms or are you one organism?
